Route description.

Reliable supply, manageable costs

Everybody needs electricity, gas and water. Our modern society cannot function without them. There is a lot at stake for non-domestic users of electricity, gas and water. The costs for using water and energy are expected to continue to rise VEMW, according to estinates, can influence up to 750 million euro true its activities. Up to circa 600 million euro from the total costs related to energy use, and about 150 million euro of the total annual water costs for non-domestic consumers. Non-domestic consumers need to find adequate answers to future changes in the energy and water supply.

What is at stake for you?

Security of supply

Non-domestic consumers must always be able to count on a reliable energy and water supply. Traditionally, the Netherlands has had a high level of supply security, but new regulations and more versatile market conditions require continuous attentions. That is why extra efforts are required to safeguard conditions for a high quality infrastructure. VEMW’s efforts are directed towards ensuring transport and supply security.

Exploding costs

Electricity and gas prices infra structure costs, water board expenses and sewage fees have one thing in common. They tend to increase enormously without consumers being able to influence them. As a consequence, non-domestic consumers have great difficulty controlling their energy- and water expenditure. This is not just driven by unpredictable oil and gas price developments, but also by insufficient competition in the energy market, energy networks and the inefficient organisation of the water sector. This is why VEMW’s efforts are directed towards creating a well functioning European energy market, efficient water services, maximum transparency of costs and independent regulatory oversight.

Possibilities to choose

Freedom of choice is essential for optimal use of energy and water in your organisation. In a real free market you can choose the best solution from a broad range of products from multiple suppliers. In theory the Netherlands has a competitive energy market but the dominance of a small number of big players prevents users from fully enjoying the benefits of competition. This is why VEMW’s efforts are directed towards confining market dominance and exclusive rights and introducing competition and full discretionary choice for consumers where possible.

Room for entrepreneurship

Freedom of choice means that no unnecessary restrictions are imposed on doing business. Companies require ample opportunity to develop their business. Policy fragmentation, pressing laws, arbitrary subsidisation, non-transparent charges and high administrative burdens, particularly affecting relatively small organisations, hinder effective solutions for your organisation. VEMW’s efforts are directed towards providing rules that are both flexible, as well as effective.

One for all, all for one

In a fast changing energy- and water sector with constantly changing players and rules, you need to be on top of things. Up-to-date information is of critical importance for your organisation. However, so much is happening that it is impossible to do everything by yourself. VEMW’s efforts are directed towards providing you with the knowledge and information you need.

Members can come to us for information and advice. VEMW is an association which fosters active membership. Representatives from all branches share their knowledge and experience in working groups.
